Michael is an Associate at Cooke, Young & Keidan. He specialises in commercial dispute resolution and acts for clients drawn from a wide range of sectors in high-value litigation and arbitration proceedings.

INTRODUCTION

Michael trained and qualified at Clifford Chance, where he practiced construction law before moving to leading offshore firm Carey Olsen, where he practiced dispute resolution. He has experience advising a wide range of counterparties involved in disputes, including those with a construction and engineering, shareholder and partnership and contentious trust focus. He has worked in a number of jurisdictions, including England and Wales, Jersey and Hong Kong, and many of his cases have a cross-border element.

BACKGROUND

Michael joined Cooke, Young & Keidan in December 2015. He is a graduate of the College of Law and Oxford University.

CASES OF NOTE

• Advised Venco Imtiaz Construction Company in successfully defending a challenge brought by Symbion Power LLC under s.68 of the Arbitration Act 1996 to a substantial ICC arbitral award.

Advised a number of property investment companies in connection with claims of interest rate-hedging product mis-selling.

Advised on a number of high-value trust disputes, acting for ultra high-net-worth individuals in respect of issues such as contested removal of trustees, contested removal of directors of companies held in trust and asset recovery.

• Advised on shareholder and partnership disputes on behalf of parties operating in the automotive, real estate and IT sectors.
